Dr Seuss inspired Lorax

Have fun and learn body vocabulary through an entertaining art activity inspired by the Lorax. Excellent activity for March to celebrate the author, Dr Seuss' birthday with it.

Aim:

to learn or reinforce colours, parts of the body and art vocabulary to make The Lorax who speaks for the trees after reading the short version of the story and talking about it follow up activity with colours

What you will need:

  • Paint: yellow, orange, white and black or same colours of card paper if you can't paint in the class
  • Paintbrushes
  • Card paper
  • Gluestick
  • Old newspapers to cover tables or floor

How to do it:

  • 1. Paint the head and the body of the Lorax orange (introduce or reinforce body vocabulary)The-lorax-Miss-T-ESL(1).jpg
  • 2. Handprint the moustache of the Lorax with yellow
  • 3. Paint the eye-brows of the Lorax with the same yellow
  • 4. When the paint is dry cut out the body, the moustache and the eye-brows of the Lorax

  • 5. Cut the eyes out of white paper
  • 6. Stick a pair of round black stickers paint or draw the middle bit of the eyes
  • 7. Cut out and fold four long stripes of orange paper for the arms and the legs

  • 8. Stick the parts on the body (reinforcing vocabulary)

  • 9. Paint or draw nose and mouth

Well done! It's ready to play with. Make children repeat some sentences that the Lorax was saying in the story and let them play with their creations.
