Written and illustrated by the well-known author of many award winner children books, Lauren Child.
It is about Charlie and his little sister Lola who loves winter and obviously the most amazing thing about winter, which is snow. Charlie as he is the big, wise brother, guides and helps Lola to enjoy the best things about winter.
Snow is my favourite and my best is a funny and entertaining picture book for little children. A CD is also available with the book so you can prepare some listening exercises with your students. It is recommended for lower primary students who like interesting and fun-filled stories with imaginative illustrations, enjoy looking at books with contents that could possibly happen with them, too.
Talking about their feelings, they would have if they were in the same situation. This story is also suitable for pre-schoolers with some colouring, talking and sequencing activities.
This is not only a lovely story, your students are going to enjoy. You can also use is to teach about winter vocabulary such as describing cold weather, fun games in the snow or what they can do after a busy winter day. Children can imitate different movements and make the others guess what they are doing. With this exercise students can be familiar with some action verbs.
You can explain that these words tell us about what somebody is doing and introduce the term that they are called verbs. So without opening any boring grammar books your young learners are unconciously studying about some grammar that they will use in the future.
If you haven't done winter display yet, this book has some nice pictures to use as an idea to decorate the classroom or make the children draw about their favourite scene as a follow up activity that you can either put them up on the walls or just talk about their pictures why they have chosen that scene.
